The Old Sydney Society was established in 1966 to preserve St. Patrick’s Church, but over the years it has assumed much broader objectives. We are incorporated under the Societies Act of Nova Scotia as a not-for-profit volunteer organization. The Old Sydney Society owns and operates St. Patrick’s Church Museum and the Sydney Museum, operates Cossit House for the Nova Scotia Museum and cooperates with Jost House Foundation who lease the building from the Society.

We invite the public to join us in this endeavour to engage the entire community in the appreciation of our heritage. The Society presents a Lecture Series at their meetings on the fourth Thursday of each month between Sept and April at 7:30 in the Society’s headquarters at 173 Charlotte Street, Sydney. Members receive two newsletters per year and are eligible for election to the Board of Directors and to vote at The Society’s Annual General Meeting which is held at the end of the fiscal year. The Society’s fiscal year and membership year runs from April1 of the current year to March 31 of the following year.

We have many volunteer capacities -greeting visitors at St. Patrick’s Museum, Cossit House, and the Sydney Museum, assisting with exhibit installation, assisting with the Society’s collection of artifacts and many more museum related positions.

Come and join in to preserve and appreciate our heritage where a warm welcome awaits you!
